What a terrible experience! Today, I visited Grade A on Newfield Avenue in Stamford. I usually shop at ShopRite in Norwalk. The seafood section at Grade A had an awful smell. All of the fresh herbs were withered. SMH - I normally buy goat milk for my cats at ShopRite in Norwalk for $7.49, but at Grade A it’s $10.25 and they’re owned by the same family. What the heck?! The young cashier clearly needs some personality training. I was so disappointed in the store, I expected it to be nicer given the area. I don’t understand how people put up with this and why anyone would choose to shop there. I’ll never go back. I’ve also cut back on shopping at ShopRite in Norwalk, especially after dealing with spoiled meat issues several times. For quality meat, I recommend checking out Butcher Block online A+ quality rather than these grocery stores. They’re really trying to kill us with spoiled products, expired items, and rotten fruit.

I love the convenience of the store . It's bright and clean and the people are friendly and helpful. I don't like that they don't have the same sales as Shoprite. They'll honor the price IF I bring in a copy of the shoprite flyer (even though they have copies there). I can't memorize the flyer and watch the scan and bag my own groceries all at the same time. Perhaps this is my own problem because I have always thought of Grade A as Shoprite and it really isn't.

Store is more pleasant to shop at since the renovation. However, the prices leave a lot to be desired. Where other stores are pricing yogurt at $1.59 or $1.79 (come on, this is a already a LOT of money for a mere 6 oz of β€œfood”), this store is now charging $1.99. Ridiculous. And you really have to be very vigilant buying any packaged produce like berries (which are only packaged, obviously, not sold individually). More often than not they will be rotten or moldy towards the bottom and sometimes the produce has a weird chemical taste even after washing it. Maybe instead of accepting manufacturers’ pricing, grocery store chains should start pushing back and advocating for consumers? And stop playing games with selective price increases like on the yogurt? After all, inflation is at a very low point now compared to a couple of years ago!

Small, limited selection, higher normal prices compared to competitors. Feels more like a large convenience store with a deli and produce than a small supermarket.

Remodeled and full of new energy β€” Grade A is bright, well stocked, and has higher ceilings, new flooring, and beautiful signage like that I’d come to love at Trader Joe’s. I’ve been in this area for 25 years β€” and this is only the 2nd major remodel I can recall. Locals love the ease of its location β€” but few used to say it was for the great produce or the energy. However, this is really special β€” and I think you should give them a fresh look. We love the mix of local history (since 1929!) and clearly a fresh infusion of capital to compete with Trader Joe’s and the (potentially) forthcoming Whole Foods β€” both nearby on High Ridge Road. Well. I’d say they’ve done their job. This is a competitive store β€” beautiful and bright, full of helpful people and fresh everything.
